Healthy Chicken Potato Cutlet: Easy Kids Lunch Box Recipe!

The kitchen is where the process of making appropriate and delicious meals for your child begins. Today, I want to present one of our family’s favorite recipes which can be your next kids lunch box recipe – Healthy Chicken Potato Cutlets. These wonderful cutlets are both easy to prepare and tasty for kids of all ages so they are a perfect option for adding to your child’s lunchbox options.

As a parent, I understand well the struggle of making meals that are not only healthy but appetizing enough to catch our picky eaters’ attention. The reason for this is that I decided to undertake the exiting challenge of designing my own masterpiece meal which would be sure to have my kids asking for their lunch boxes on a daily basis.

First was the chicken that was moist and tender. With its delicious flavor marinated in a symphony of flavors – soy sauce, chili sauce, ginger, garlic and some red chilli flakes sprinkled over it – the kitchen was completely filled with an irresistible aroma.

While the chicken slowly simmered over the stove filling the kitchen with expectancy, now move to the potatoes and start boiling them until they were soft and fluffy. Then mashed them perfectly adding roasted cumin, black pepper and garam masala for taste.

Roll up your sleeves molding the mixture into pleasing small cutlets. Sprinkled with a dash of flour, dipped into a beaten egg and coated generously with breadcrumbs, the cutlets were ready to begin their voyage towards golden glory.

There was an air of expectancy that tingled in the kitchen as though a promise was waiting to be realized. Serve cutlets onto your plate as well topping them with some fresh herbs and chili garlic sauce for additional taste. However, the genuine magic doesn’t occur, until we take that first bite-it just cracks open to reveal a succulent center loaded with chicken and potatoes – yummilicious! One bite at a time, our taste buds dance with the delight, and that is reminding us about one simple pleasure brought to us by a homely dinner cooked by his wife.

And as we fill these healthy meatless patties in our children’s lunchboxes, we know this is neither gratification of their physical needs only but also − to some extent − feeding their souls and spirits. As in every bite you remember the love and care that gets reflected in each meal prepared.

Healthy Chicken Potato Cutlet: Easy Kids Lunch Box Recipe!

Ingredients for Chicken

  • 250g Chicken, boneless

  • 2 tbsp Soya Sauce

  • 2 tbsp Chili Sauce

  • 1 tsp Ginger & Garlic Paste

  • 1 tsp Salt, or to taste

  • 1/2 tsp Red Chili Flakes

  • 1/2 cup Water

  • Ingredients for Potato:

  • 2 Potatoes, boiled

  • 1 tsp Roasted and Crushed Cumin

  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper

  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala


  • In a pan, combine chicken, soya sauce, chili sauce, ginger garlic paste, salt, red chili flakes, and water.

  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer covered for 15-20 minutes until chicken is tender. Remove excess water and let it cool.

  • Shred the cooked chicken or pulse it in a chopper on low speed.

  • Mash the boiled potatoes and add the shredded chicken, garam masala, roasted and crushed cumin, black pepper, and mix well.

  • With wet hands, shape the mixture into cutlets.

  • Coat each cutlet with flour, then dip in beaten egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.

  • These cutlets can be frozen for up to 15 days.
